Very Random..

See the laundry behind the canisters........IT IS FOLDED>

This is the only one I could find of a white mantle and rock....I have an inspiration pic but can't find it of what I originally had in mind.

This is what happens to my pillows....thrown helter skelter.

I always have a half-finished layout......laying around!

My amaryllis I got for my birthday from mother-in-law. Husband put it there...not me.

So a bit of a warning....this is just a random post with random photos. Took some pics of Jeff and I going out to the big ole town of La Pine (said with much sarcasm). As you can see Riley is ridin shotgun. He ALWAYS rides shotgun. The dog lives for his ball and the rides out and about town. You see (pause)....the dog gets treats every time we venture into society. His Mommy, yes that is referring to me, is addicted to her mexi-mochas. He knows that he gets doggy treats at the drive-up. He will bark to remind them he is there and looking oh so cute. He has the girls well trained . One even fixes him a cup full of REAL whip cream with the dog cookies on top. I see your eyes rolling, don't think I don't! You think he might also have us well trained too? Anyways...I took random photos of the scenery outside. One of our cross hanging from the rear view mirror (made by dh's grandma who passed this last year). See the crack in the windshield? Yep. That was made by RILEY. Protecting the car. We can't afford at the moment to get it fixed. Just keeping it real for ya all. It is a lovely little Corolla that gets from point A to B...and at the moment that is all that matters.

As for keeping it real......I thought I would show that fireplace I don't like...in the great hopes that maybe you all could suggest something that could make me fall in love with the old girl. I know many have asked to see full on shots so here they are. I threw in one of what I was going for. Suggest away.....bring it on. I am not scared. I am not easily hurt. Really it is ok. What was in my mind and what came to be reality never meshed. So there I bared the white elephant...along with pell mell pillows, and cracked windshields....anything else you would like to see that isn't tricked out for the camara? I have plenty areas to share in that arena. Let me know if you want more. I am being serious here..would love to know what you enjoy seeing when you come to visit me! Oh yeah I found those little canisters at St. Vinnies today! 2.00! I plan on redoing them. Ohhh and did you see my amaryillis growing...ain't she a beaut? I always do paper whites..but they were sold out. I had to throw some more of my humble artsy fartsy photos. Ok so I said this is random and it is. I will try to do better next time. Off to snuggle with the boys. I just Realized I live with 4 of them? Two human ones and two fur ones. For REALS. Happpppppy Friday! EDITED TO ADD...I have had several of you ask what camara I own....I have a Canon Rebel XTI.....which I know nutting about...hopefully that will change. Cherry

I absolutely love that bench seat thingy with the wreath - gorgeous! The fireplace isn't that bad - sorry, no suggestions on that one. Do love your dog! And usually your auto insurance has coverage for getting front windshield fixed free! Check on it - something to do with safety and being able to see properly out the window.

Laura said exactly what I was going to say. Your entry bench is lovely! That wreath looks perfect there.

Just so you know.....visually you can see just fine...BUT it does not look good. So safety is not a concern.

seriously....you take the most awesome photos...with amazing angles! I love the ones of your dog, and I am loving that wreath with the key inside! Have a wonderful weekend!! :)

Great pictures! I'm at a loss for the fireplace. I don't think it looks bad, but I also know how frustrating it is to have something in your head and to have it not come out right. Hubby wants to do rock around ours and we haven't found the right inspiration yet.

I LOVE your bench seating & wall treatment in the hall though - SO pretty!

Hi - I have recently been visiting and have enjoyed each one. I was wondering, since you seem to love red, can you recommend a wonderful red paint. I have a dresser I'm thinking would be fun in red. I love some of yours that I see in this post.

I just have to say I think I love your house and your style. I would love to see broader pictures of everything to get an idea of layout. Also, love your little groupings and would like to see what they are on or in. Love the little glass dog...I really want him...he made me smile. By the way, I really like the fireplace...it is different and visually interesting. What more could you ask for?

It looks I am with everyone else....my favorite is the bench in your entry way....that is BEAUTIFUL...I love it!!

As for you mantel, I think you did a great job and love the pieces that you picked and how they are arranged.....when I look at your inspiration pic, I noticed that the mantel extends out further or is wider than the rock fireplace, yours seems to be exactly the same length as the fireplace....could that be why you think something is missing or off?? Not sure, but that is the only thing I see.

Okay...now that I have FINALLY put away the christmas stuff, you have totally inspired me to start thinking spring!!

Have a great weekend!

I recently discovered your blog and have enjoyed your pictures--so pretty. I like your style--and keeping it real.

I have a Canon Rebel XTi too, after reading more about it and just playing & experimenting I moved away from Auto--mainly because I detest flash. If I can do it, you can too! Good luck.

LOVE LOVE YOU STYLE -- and ya know I am a country and bling girl/ kinda mixed up -- so here are a few suggestions from me and hub ( who has made many mantels -- But is a remodeling contractor for a lot of decorators in the atlanta area- - Ok anything can go with anything if you like it - to me beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- but hub a purist about wood - is also a woodturner -as a hobby -uses exotic woods etc -
says -- the style of the mantel board -is not one to mesh with the rocks -- altho -sometimes - rustic (the stone )and traditional look well togeher --
Also to me the scale of the rocks are too large for the mantel size --
HUbs wanted to see more pics of house --so his suggestion a good one I think -- IS to paint the mantel black - not a glossy
( we love the bench =-right ) and then sand it in places
and distress - not to reveal the white but -** to sand til see a little of the natural wood revealed - This is important to take the formality out of the mantel ) then I would add a little clear wax - the kind in a can to the spots - It would then bring the focus to the mantel , not the stones -- they would recede
* disclaimer _I LOVE things on your mantel -- so wonderful -- SO If you paint it black and don't like it - you can always repaint it white - I know a lot of work and several coats- But that is a solution -- Hope to take a pic of a mantel my friend did not like and what hub did, because they are our friends - amazing - also changed out her bar area in her lkitchen whih adjoins -- She had a decorator - that also chose the most amazing things -- toile in black and white in her bedroom - too beautiful , Hope this helps - not critical - just trying to help - ya know I am a big fan -- and you are the black idea painting queen -- Kathy - ga -- and yes your mantel can be a different color than the base and crown moulding - Kathy - Ga

I think all the house photos can be summed up into one word: Warmth. :)

Your place is very inviting and I love all the photos you take.

The only deal with the fireplace I can see that "might" bother me is that the mantle is too fancy for the rocks...So "if" it was my fireplace I would put a more rustic mantel on it or distress the one that is up there by taking off the fancy little thing in front and painting the mantle black then sanding the edges a bit... If you like fireplaces a bit more fancy then I would leave the mantle the way it is and have the rocks removed and add something more fancy to the sides

I do like the fireplace very much but if it was in my house I would probably change the mantle and make it more rustic removing the rocks is a big pain. :)

Hope you have a great weekend,
Robin~♥

Love all the random pictures! I am thinking maybe the scale is off a little on the fireplace - maybe the sides need to be "framed" by more wood, so the rocks don't overpower the mantle.

Random or not I'm just happy you posted Cherry ;)

Personally, I like your fireplace. What is it you don't like? The whiteness? Maybe bang it up a bit?? Change the color?? Take the embellishment off to make it less fancy??... hmmm...

As for what I want to see... I would love to see more shots of your rooms as a whole. You have amazing style and I want to see how it all looks together.

Happy New Year sweet friend!

Hi Cherry~
Thank you for telling us what camera you have; I was curious! My husband and I are saving for a Canon~ almost there! :) I love this post, with all your "random" pictures. It's such a wonderful treat to hop on by and see what you post! :)

Okay, about your fireplace...I love the rock, but I know what it's like to have fireplace issues! Everybody always says mine is fine, but I know there's something that still really nags me about it! SO...I was curious if you had thought of adding a surround to the mantel? Black looks very much at home in your house and fits your decor well~ you could maybe paint it black? What is it that you don't like about it? (Just curious!) One thing I do know, is that whatever you decide to do will end up looking fantastic! :) Have a great rest of your weekend!

Your home is absolutely lovely. Your furry friend is so darn cute. Sounds like he has it made. Whipped cream with doogy biscuits and all. lol
As for the fireplace, I like it but if you are tired of it you can box in the areas surrounding the fireplace box and then add moulding to tie it in with the mantle. Not a hard project and could be done in a weekend for probably less than $50.
I love your blog and the look with the banner and background. May I ask who designed it? I am looking to update mine.
Thanks! Have a hapy Sunday,
Tammy

If you look at the inspiration pic, it has a pretty formal mantel, so I don't think it's that your mantel is too formal. I think it just juts out a bit far.

I also think one of the things bothering you about the fireplace is that the "legs" of it are narrow compared to the height. Look at the inspiration pic. Its "legs" are much wider and more substantial. When you're working with a heavy, weighty material like stone, it all comes down to proportions. :-)

I love that Riley. One of my favorite things about your blog -- seeing what he's up to. :-)

Hey, I live w/ 4 boys too! Two human ones and two furry ones, also! I guess we are the princesses of our domain!

I really, really, really like the fireplace the way it is. I know how you feel though about it not coming out the way you want it. Every time I walk into my master bedroom, I get that same feeling. Something is just missing for me, but others think it is nice.

I loved seeing the random shots of stuff around your house. LOVE the hall tree bench piece with the cute pillows and wreath on it! I wish I had somewhere in my house to put one! I totally know what you mean about BHG using the same pictures. I have lots of their books and magazines and many have some of the same stuff. The Creative Home magazine I looked at last night was pretty much a waste of money. Lots of modern looking stuff and the one good story with lots of good pictures is one I already have in one of their books. Dang!!!

I like your fireplace...but... I think its a little top heavy. I would try to make it wider-- maybe adding wooden sides to it to make it wider rather than taller. I would even make the mantel about 6 inches longer on both sides just to keep the wider look going.

You know Cherry...in all honesty, I don't think the fireplace looks bad. I love the mantel! I know how it is when the vision in your head isn't what happens in real life, though. I was also thinking how warm and inviting your house looks..despite the pell mell pillows!

I too love the bench and the stripe walls. Did you make the bench with an old door? I always love your photos especially whatever projects you have finished . Of course since I am a dog lover I love to see yours, and of course they are supposed to be spoiled as my Maggie Mae is. I actually like your fireplace but if you are not happy with it the right vision will come to you sooner or later. Have a great week.

Hi...love your pics....one suggestion on your fireplace that might help. Your rock gives the fireplace a lot of weight and doesn't see as balanced with the mantel....I would suggest to balance the weight of the mantel by either increasing the size of the overall mantel or do a full surround buildout with your white surround on each side. Hope this helps somewhat.

Hi! Thanks for stopping by again.

I always love coming over to see you. Your home looks so warm, cozy and inviting. I just love the hall bench! I have one but need to add pillows to it.

The fireplace I love river rock. We are in the planning process of redoing our fireplace mantel and surround. I want river rock but I am not sure what I want for the mantel. A thought that has already been mentioned is to change the color of the mantel to black and maybe remove the embelishment. The mantle to me looks a little short over the rocks. I think it would be better if it was longer than the rock. The other option is to add more rock up the wall above the mantel. Or you could add the wood on either side under the mantel to frame the rock.

Love your style and decor! Red is such a pretty color.
I can't wait to get going on Valentines day decorations.
