A little beadboard project & a question to you all!

I have these little niches on either side of our microhood. I would love to go hog wild and paint my cabinets etc (I would love a mixture of a distressed cream and black cabs, sigh)...BUT not gonna happen at the moment. We had leftover beadboard and I decided to FORCE my dh to cut some down to size and I painted it black and put it in the back of the cubbies for some POPPPP. I love to collect ironstone...especially pitchers and plates and I thought this would make a great back drop. Now my question to you is do you think we should do the sides as well? OHHH and what about down below.. behind the dish racks. Boy howdy I just love how things snow ball. PLEASE leave me some input...love being able to get some bloggy advice from my blog buds. I notice in the pics you can't really tell that it is beadboard.....hopefully you get the idea!

Before I go wanted to show where I put my vinyl decals at! I decided to put them above the doors leading to our master. Thanks again Miss. Carmen. Also here are the directions to making the paper pumpkins I showed yesterday. Hopefully you can read them. They are very easy to make! Basically strips of paper with a hole at each end (paper hole puncher would work great) with ribbon through the holes and a leaf at the top. Would make great name cards for Thanksgiving dinner. Happppy Wednesday.......turkey day is not far off. cherry

Love the bead board...I would say do behind the plate rack and the sides are optional. The decal looks great, I keep looking at them but I am afraid of putting them up wrong!

I think you should do behind the plate rack also, but not the sides.
The words look great above the door!

I agree behind the plate rack, but not the sides. :) Very cute by the way.

Had to comment the minute you hit my RSS reader. OK, you are SO living in my house! I love ironstone, too. My favorite is colored walls with lots of black and white accessories. Just turn your head a minute while I sneak out with your gorgeous decal and star. I ♥ your site!

Cherry,
I love your monogram! It looks fabulous!

Oh and yes behind the plate rack, no on the sides. It would shrink the feeling of depth. Very sharp with the ironstone.

I love the vinyl saying. It is very inspirational.

How do you get your pictures so big on the blog?

Shell in your Pocket said...

I would put bead board everywhere if I could!!

I love the vinyl saying so cute!
-sandy toes
p.s. behind the plate not sides:)

I like the beadboard, too, and I don't think I would do the sides. You want it to pop, and the sides make the black stand out.

I also think you could get by leaving down below like it is since it's not beadboard, but the decorative spindles give it a special look so you could paint black. Does that make sense??? Probably not. LOL! Translation: You could go either way. ;-)

Good job with those stencils!

hmmm. here's what i would do ... i would be too excited not to paint the cabinets. you can do it. i did. it takes time but i so love it. once the cabinets are finished then you can decide if you want to add the beadboard. i'm guessing you won't want it where you are thinking but perhaps it can do someplace else in the room to carry your idea through. get sanding! you can do it!!! visit my blog, scroll down and you'll see. :)

Robin Beck said...

I'd leave it like it is up top and put black behind the plate rack too to make it pop out and match...I would leave everything else as it is UNTIL you are ready to commit to painting all your cabinets(sounds like that is what you want to do) BUT in the mean time I think it looks really great.
BTW: If you click on the instructions for the pumpkin it gets really big and is very clear...Thank you for posting that- it is adorable.

I would definitely do behind the plate rack so it would look like a finished piece. I would also do the cabinets if you really want them! I'm not sure what your kitchen looks like, but creamy white cabinets with a distressed black island would look incredible! If you're not wanting to commit, add in some other white & black accents! I love the beadboard look -- the ironstone really pops against it! :)

I agree with the others. Paint behind the plates but not the sides. Looks great! And that little pumpkin is calling me. Has my name right on it:)

I think I agree with a lot of people who said to put it behind the plate rack but leave the sides alone. We have black beadboard in our kitchen and I looooove it....so good choice! Love the star and the decal too!

Behind the plate rack, don't do the sides, and maybe put some black and white toile fabric on the bottom using two sided tape.

Niiiiiice. I think your cabinets look gorgeous. I would only do the back in beadboard, but I WOULD try doing it behind the plate rack as well. It looks great behind the ironstone!

I'm voting for no side, but I think you should do behind the plate rack...it looks really cute! I love black on cabinets!

The little pumpkin is so cute...I'll have to give that a try...seems simple enough!

Love what you did with the vinyl lettering. I've been thinking of buying a set of the holiday verbage at Hobby Lobby...like Silent Night or Merry Christmas. Too cute!

Have a great Thursday! :)

Everything looks wonderful. I think you should go ahead and paint behind the plate rack the black and see how you like that and if you are still in question, then go for the sides.

Sit A Spell said...

Glad you could "sit a spell" on my new blog! Love yours. I would put the beadboard on the back only. Ponder the cabinet idea a bit more...you'll find your answer. : )

Hi Cherry!

Such a Cute idea! I think to complete the great look would be to add the beadboard to the sides & do the same for the dishrack! Oh my, will DH mind cutting some more! LOL! Love all your sweet touches to your beautiful home!

The black is just great with your white pitchers and I too think I would do behind the plate rack but not the sides. After many years, my hubby did paint my cabinets and put glass in some of my doors so that my dishes would show. The painted cabinets made such a difference but definetly was a lot of work for him but he loves it too. I love the big red star and the decals. It looks wonderful. You have a good evening.

I love how the black makes it all pop! Yes I would go on the sides and on down to the plate rack! Looks great.

I like the black bead board in both the back of the cupboard and the plate rack. Really makes the displayed pieces stand out.

I've ALMOST convinced DH to beadboard the bathroom. Never knew I could get excited about a bathroom but this is going to be f.u.n.

cherry said...

Thanks guys for your opinions...I am seeing that most of you think the back of the dish racks should be done....it helps sooo much to have all your advice. Now to convince "The Man". cherry

Saucy said...

Yes, yes! I lurrve me some beadboard. Behind the plates for sure. And painting the cabinets cream and black! Ooooohyes!

Saucy said...

Oh, and not the sides, just the back, otherwise you'll have funny issues on the edges.

I think the beadboard would look good behind the plate rack, too. And I love those decals - so pretty!

Yep, I think the sides. (I'm in the minority!!) This is WEIRD -- I was laying in bed last night trying to figure out where else I can put my leftover beadboard. I was thinking of ABOVE my cabinets. Is that nuts?? Probably won't happen, I'm too sceered!

What a great idea to use the beadboard! I say definitely behind the plate rack and I think it would look good on the sides too, especially contrasting against the ironstone. LOVE the wall decal with the star above it!

I love where you put the vinyl decals, and love the words! :) I also love the black bead board on the back and think it would look fantastic behind the plates, too. I just love painted bead board! :) We bought bead board to put between our top cabinets and our counter tops and on the outsides of our cabinets, and it is not at all expensive. If you want to redo your cabinets, you should go for it! You could really have fun with that bead board! :) It isn't difficult or expensive to paint cabinets~ it just takes time...oh, and a lot of sanding! :)
The most expensive part of painting our cabinets were replacing the old icky knobs. :)

Thanks for posting the paper pumpkin directions! I am definitely going to make one! :)

Those word decals look great! I vote for more black behind the plate rack only. Painting cabinets is a chore! It's all that preparation really. If you don't do good prep it won't last - I've painted cabinets twice and learned my lesson the first time!

Hello, Love the black beadboard and would also love it behind the plate rack. I would not do the sides, but that's just an opinion. I agree that the black really shows off your ironstone and it would also showcase your plates! Julie in Southern California

I would say behind the plate rack...but leave it only in the back....sides might be a bit too much. LOVE it! I just bought another tum star for over my fireplace...can't wait to put it up!

Hi Cherry - jus' browsing around your beautiful pictures. Looks like you have been busy again. Your wall words look great and if you ever decide to paint your cabinets - it's not that bad - I did my own - a lil' time consuming but not difficult. How are you feeling - and has your husband had any luck with a job? I've just had you on my mind. Best wishes and Happy Thanksgiving. Cathy
