Down in ole Mexico

NO I am not heading that way.... I just thought I would share my Spanish style armoire...turned kinda cottagey shabby...whatevvvvvvvva (it has identity crisis)! I am not done with her. Come on admit it....you had one of these at one time. I just LOVED that rustic look it had. I even had the matching...(aghast) end tables. I stopped short of owning the coffee table folks. Now she has already gone through one make-over several years back in my MAJOR harlequin phase. I painted her white and did harlequin diamonds on the sides and the doors & added the appliques. You can still that wonderful feature on the doors. NOW I have just gone all white...still has the appliques. To be honest I am not really a big applique gal any more. I like things plainer the older I get. But I am afraid the appliques are on for good.... I will give her another coat and distress the heck out of her and probley call it good. I have thought of getting rid of it..but ....can't afford to replace it. And Darn it...it is made really well. So I have just tried to fit it in with my current style. Make it bend to my will so to speak. I messed around with my junk on the inside of it. Played house a bit. It is a fun piece to display items in. So there you have it. Do you have a piece you could give a second glance too? Think twice before throwing it out! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's day! OHHH I thought I would show you all WHY I can't make the bed in the morning! 6 letters...CALVIN! Well that's my story anyways. XOXO, Cherry

I have a Calvin too - mine is orange, old, and adorable. So is yours (the adorable part)!

That Calvin is just STUNNING!! Is that OK to refer to a male (I'm assuming) cat as STUNNING? Well, he is. If that cat was on my bed--it wouldn't get made either!!

I am one of the few folks in the USA who have NOT owned one of those Spanishy wardrobes, BUT if I run across one at a very bargain price, I will now give serious consideration to snatchomg it right up--now that you've demonstrated the "beauty within the beast"! I did get a kick out of your description of the previous look you gave to the Spanishy armoire when you talked about your "MAJOR harlequin phase". Of course, your wonderful little goodies, so artfully placed within the cabinet make it look all the better! I am a great fan of Scrabble tiles!

Hope you're having a great week! Dana

Oooo, I have one of those spanish amoirs and I was just telling my husband a few nights ago, that when we get a new tv amior, I am giving the spanish one a facelift!

And I have three little ones that make it impossible to make the bed! Your Calvin is beautiful and a great excuse for not making the bed!!! :)

I have 2 schnauzers that interfere with my bed making...they like to get up early then go back to bed when I get up...sometimes I just wait till they decide to get up then make the bed... love your photos...

I have an armoire that we bought about 17 years ago. It's whitewashed. I still love the look and shape but I'd love to paint it red. I don't have the nerve!!

Love the white on the armoire. Lol, about the side tables/coffee table comment. I've been there, done that.
Look forward to seeing it when you are finished with it. Isn't it amazing all of the phases we go through.

I love how you casually go through the details, making it seem like a piece of cake to make such a big transformation on a armoire. You just know how to do it!! How to give the perfect face lift to so many things. And Calvin...I need a Calvin so that I have a needed excuse for not making the bed. You did a great job! So glad that you did not replace it.

I enjoyed your post, I am constantly changing things around and painting different pieces different colors. You have a gift for display and like everyone else, I love to look at the vignettes you put together.

P.S. Thanks for following my blog. I just discovered blog world and I'm hooked!

lol...Id let Calvin have the bed if I were you. The look on his face says you are annoying him.

I didnt have one of those armoires but I wanted one! I think it looks fabulous in its new paint.

LOVE the armoire! I am liking lighter colors more and more. I went through a phase where I was really into black furniture, but now it all just seems so dark & gloomy! And the dusting - Ay Carumba! I wish I could just paint my (only 1 year old) black dining room set a lovely french blue, but the "I told you So's" from my hubby would be never ending. Great pictures!
