Some wonderful awards, a project or two, and an Old school vacation.....

http://peekingthruthesunflowers.blogspot.com/
http://thestonerabbit.typepad.com/the_stone_rabbit/ I was lucky enough to have these lovely ladies bestow upon me a few awards. I hope they know that I doooo appreciate the awards. I was busy last week getting ready for our little trip and doing last minute school shopping and didn't get around to posting them. I love each one and feel so thrilled that they thought of me! So thank-you to Kim, Des, and Dana!

In other news...here is where we have been (see down below). Relaxing and taking in the last of the glory of Summer. Lake of the Woods. Yes.. that is the official name of the lake. A resort that has maintained its rustic old school charm. We stayed in cabin #5...an oldy but goody. This 1920's lake resort was featured in http://www.camps-cottages.com/history.htm This is one of my fave decorating books. Love the kitschy nostalgia of this time period. I would have loved to have snatched that little red table. It had a 1950 National Geographic sitting on it. The bedside tables had reading material from that genre as well...old westerns...good ole Zane Grey. The first night...I heard the sound of owls hooting...while it kept me awake....I really relished the sounds they made. I felt honored that they were serenading us. While we didn't do much of anything exciting...we swam...or I should say Hunter swam, ate too much rich food, read, shopped, watched the scenery from our little porch, and ate more rich food( note to thyself to start my walking again and eating healthy), we had fun. I mean who wouldn't want to hang out in a cabin with a wagon wheel lamp & warm wool Pendleton blankets? Good times...thats all I gotta say.

Remember these as a kid? How many times did you plead with your folks.....pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeese let me have a dime so I can ride the wagon? It's a whopping quarter now. Some things never change. Don't tell Hunter I showed you this. Gotta keep the cool image for your peeps.

My post wouldn't be complete without a little project. I had a before...but the camara ate the pic...I don't know what the heck I did but all my pics disappeared while on vacation the first night. So all I got to give is an after. Sorry folks. I turned it over to show what I did. Last week I went to our monthly St. Vinnies 50% off store wide sale. I found a burgandy crackled candle pillar..or at least I think that was what it was...it really didn't have a place to put a candle safely...Anywhooo than I found a big wooden plate with a lovely folk artish hen with a night cap on...yes I said night cap. She also had a night gown on...it was a ghastly dipiction of a hen gone wrong...From there I sanded the painted image as good as I could and of course yawnnnnnnnnnnn used spray paint to cover both pieces and used my liquid nails to put them together to create a cake stand type thingy ma jig. I have had much envy for those that had those gorgeous Southern living pillars with the twisted stem. WELL this is as close as I got to it. And for 2.00 plus the cost of paint and liquid nails not bad. It will be fun for Halloween and any other whim I might have for it. The other little project is my boo banner. I did it last night. I found a bunch of fun Halloween papers while on leave and had to dig into them last night. I have sooo many paper crafts and other projects roaming in this head for Fall and Halloween I need to start now. It is only 62 degrees here too soooo pretty easy for me to say "green light" ....well I HAD labor Day projects to do...and they are not getting done....it is soo much more fun to hang with you guys! I hope everyone is safe and sound...I have those in my thoughts that are close to Gustav. God Bless, cherry

What fun your lake trips sounds! We used to stay in a place similar to that in Southern Mo. every summer. My kids (adults now) still talk about the fun times at Turkey Creek Ranch! Your projects are wonderful--love em both. I must put my summer decor away and haul out the pumpkins and bats! Dana

This is just perfect! I have the base to a cheese server (?) and am using the glass top as a cloche. Well I keep thinking about what I can do with the base. Now I know! Will spray it black (of course) and glue a candle stick base to the bottom of it! Ingenious! Thank you for your post and the pictures are great!
Thank you even more for your prayers. I am in MS just north of Stennis by about 30 miles and we are just now getting the last feeder bands of Gustav. We only lost power for 6 hours! Huge blessing. Not so good for those south and west of us. We need to continue praying for them. Sad times.
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

LOVING the boo banner! I saw fancy glitter letters today that I was thinking of buying for a totally sparkly boo banner. I'm going to think about...Now that I see yours I may just go traditional (as if there's a traditional boo, LOL. ;-)

Lake of the Woods...So aptly named. I would love to rest my head there!

And wow! what a beautiful place to vacation. I must say, I'm a little jealous. I visited the Pacific North coast for the first time last year and I'm dying to go back.
Everything is so gorgeous, lush, and green. And that cabin is so cute!

Looks like you had a great vacation. What a cute little place! I can't believe that summer is almost over - very saddening, although I must admit that I'm a bit excited that fall decor is making it's way out - and your boo banner is super cute! :)

Love that little tag on the cloche. Is that how you spell it?
Anyway such a cute project. Love that little resort. Takes me back to the early 60's and summer trips around northern Calif. Playing hundreds of hands of old maid with my sister. Such fun, and making memories. Mimi

You always have such fun projects! I love the little cloche/table, and the banner is cute too.

Your vacation sounds like a lot of fun. I've always wanted a woodsy cabin to decorate.

The IKEA Ektorp sofas are a great deal. I have them in my living room, which doesn't get daily use. I'm not sure I'd put them in a well-used room, unless they were all I was on a tight budget. They're not super-cushy, as I think most people would want.

And you want to hear something really bad? The rides at the mall are a DOLLAR! Yep - a whole dollar. Crazy. Ha! Ha!

Love all the fun projects too. I have to do some fun Fall projects after the twinkies' birthday projects are finished! :o)
